Chung-Hao Lee

Chung-Hao Lee Headshot

Chung-Hao Lee is an associate professor of Bioengineering at the University of California, Riverside (UCR) and an elected fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA). His research focuses on computational/experimental biomechanics and precision medicine to address clinically important cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, including tricuspid valve regurgitation in congenital heart defects and brain aneurysms. His transformative research and innovation have been supported by the NIH, DoD, AHA, among others. Dr. Lee received a PhD in Civil Engineering (with his doctoral research on multiscale computational biomolecular mechanics) from UCLA in 2011, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Texas at Austin. Before he joined UCR, Dr. Lee was an Assistant/Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma (2016-2023).

Within the Bioengineering Division (BED) of the ASME, Dr. Lee has attended the Summer Bioengineering Conference since 2013 and has been an active member of the Solid Mechanics, Tissue & Cellular Engineering (TCE), and Education Technical Committees (TCOM). He has also supported student engagement through impactful mentoring and served as session chairs, judged student presentations, and the Skalak Award Selection Committee for the JBME. Dr. Lee was recently nominated to serve as the Theme Co-Leader for Bioprinting and Biomanufacturing under the TCE TCOM and joined the 2027 ASME SBC panning & organizing committee (the Finance & Exhibits Chair) so that he could potentially contribute further to the community.

Lucas Timmins

Luke Timmins Headshot

Lucas (Luke) Timmins is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University, with courtesy appoints in the Department of Translational Medical Sciences at Texas A&M and the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at Houston Methodist Academic Institute. His research group broadly applies engineering mechanics to address prevalent challenges in cardiovascular biology, physiology, and medicine. Major efforts in the lab are directed at developing and translating image-based and patient-specific computational modeling approaches to advance patient management.

I have been an active member of the SB3C community since its inception, serving on conference organizing committees and, more recently, completing a three-year term as Treasurer of the SB3C Foundation Board. During this time, I have also held leadership roles within ASME-BED, currently serving as the Chair of the Fluids TCOM and as an Associate Editor for JBME. These experiences have provided me with a broad perspective on our community and its many opportunities for growth and collaboration. As President-Elect, I look forward to helping shape the future of SB3C by working with fellow Board members to foster collaboration, strengthen partnerships with affiliated organizations, and ensure the Foundation continues to serve the evolving needs of our biomechanics community.

Treasurer Candidates

Hoda Hatoum

Hoda Hatoum Headshot

Dr. Hoda Hatoum is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Technological University, where she directs the Biofluids Laboratory that focuses on translational research in cardiovascular biomechanics, biofluids, and medical device engineering. She leads a nationally recognized research program supported by multiple federal and foundation awards, including funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the American Heart Association (AHA), and industry and institutional partners. This provides extensive experience managing complex research budgets, financial reporting, and multi-institutional collaborations.

Beyond her research, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to professional service through leadership roles such as serving currently as Co-Chair of the ASME Bioengineering Division Fluid Mechanics Technical Committee (TCOM), Associate Editor of the Annals of Biomedical Engineering (ABME) - the flagship journal of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), and a member of the BMES Education Committee. She has previously served as the SB3C 2024 Social Media Chair, and as the cardiovascular engineering track chair for BMES in 2025. These experiences have strengthened her skills in strategic planning, organization, communication, and responsible stewardship of resources while fostering collaboration across the biomechanics and bioengineering community. As a candidate for SB3C Foundation Treasurer, she hopes to continue serving the SB3C community by contributing to the Foundation's financial management and long-term success.
